A recent round of golf at De Zalze for our MD Richard and two of his friends from the UK confirmed his earlier impression that this is one of the best courses in the Cape. Not only this but with three of the top ten restaurants in South Africa (Terroir, Overture and Rust en Vrede) close by and an array of stunning vineyards, it is the perfect location to combine a full day of golf, food and wine tasting.
Says Richard “The golf is a real five star experience with some memorable holes and the short par four 13th hole will live long in the memory with its drive right over water. But my favourites are the par three 3rd (watch out on the green) and the 17th, which just has to be one of the best par 5’s you will play.
After a quick drink on the terrace overlooking the mountains in the distance we had a fabulous lunch at Terroir, one of my favourite restaurants which is located on the estate and followed that by an afternoon of wine tasting at the nearby Meerlust and Waterford wineries. Real golf enthusiasts can eat and drink with a golf theme too as Ernie Els own wine estate is just five minutes up the road and he has just opened his new restaurant “The Big Easy” in the middle of Stellenbosch”.
